About the Client

Sun World Innovations is a global fruit genetics and licensing company focused on creating better fruit varieties and sharing these varieties, with our licensee family of growers and marketers worldwide. Getting their start in 1976, Sun World is the longest standing fruit breeding company in the industry. Today their primary focus is on developing table grape and stone fruit varieties.

The decision

The UK is a strategic market for Sunworlds licensees. Having a good idea of how fast the grapes are growing and how varieties are projected to develop in the medium to long term is key to deciding how many licences to give out and ensure a healthy premium for Sunworlds genetics.

What we delivered

This project gave the client the ability to distil from a wide array of data a map of how the UK market operates and how it has evolved since 2000. The end result helped Sunworld International better establish their strategic goals for the UK market.

The methodology behind the report offered a 5 year market projection of the UK markets, looking at sales, volume and price, by combining customs data with UK retail market sales transactions. The report cross validated the growth characteristics to create a robust forward projection of the market. This approach was able to verify an important shift in tendency after the brexit vote, giving the forecast more credibility as a useful planning tool. To further add local context, all projections were created in per capita and absolute values.

In combination with the projections the report also offered a section dedicated to the growth strategies of each origin in the UK markets since 2000 and the evolution of varieties in the market over the last 3 years.
